Media Terminology

Social Realism- A style used to show what life was actually like at that period. Postmodernism- Ideologized view on life to show a depiction of what the director wants you to see. Intertextuality- Creating a media text that has references to another text. Narrative-  How a media text is organised to create a story. Diegesis- A narrator describes what is happening in the text. Ideology- Ideas the producers have they want to portray through there text. Oppositional reading- If the text is viewed from a different view than the producer intended it is an oppositional reading.

What representations of society are created in this music video? What representations of gender, ethnicity and social class are represented in this music video? What representations of the artist are constructed in this music video? This song was released on  11 February 1991, and the music video shows the singer, Shara Nelson, walking through the streets of Los Angeles ,in a  continuous one shot, ignoring the environment around her. There are many characters in the background such as a paraplegic man, two people making out, people throwing vegetables, gangs etc and therefore this represents the area she is walking through, Los Angeles, as not a good area where people are struggling. As previously mentioned, the street she is walking through is very unique with lots of things happening in the background of the video and the lyrics often refer to how she is hurting over a significant other ,'really hurt me baby', and the hurt is that bad that she is just ignor...

Editing Using Premiere Pro

The task we were given was to create a piece of video using adobe premier pro, with a set of videos and a set song. The videos we were given were of a water sport called fly boarding and the song was 'oops upside your head' by the Gap Band. To start I opened all the videos and played each one to decide what order I wanted them in, I knew that I wanted my opening shot to be an establishing shot so it showed the audience the concept and environment of the video but before I did this I synced the video to the audio so the video appeared when the fist beat of the audio started, this gave it a well thought out introduction for the audience. I wanted a title in my video as well so it made it clear what the video was about, I thought if the title just jump cutted in and out it would look blocky and unpolished.
